The next Solar Decathlon Europe will take place in Versailles, France in June and July of 2014. It challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost effective, energy efficient, and attractive. Each team spends up to two years in developing its house to compete in ten contests and eventually builds the house from ground up at the competition site.

The first Taiwanese team to participate in any Solar Decathlon event is Team NCTU Unicode from National Chiao Tung University.  The team’s design intent is for the house to function well and sustainably in humid climate zones such as Taiwan as well as in dry climate zones, and ultimately to become a prototype for social housing in Taiwan. Good luck to Team Unicode!

Team Austria won the 2013 Solar Decathlon in October at Irvine, California and Team UOW of Australia won the 2013 Solar Decathlon China in August at Datong, China.
