Living Building Challenge in Affordable Housing: Findings from the Field Webinar

May 19, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am UTC+0

The Living Building Challenge in Affordable Housing: Findings from the Field webinar will take place on May 19th at 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. P.S.T. Affordable housing projects are uniquely situated to benefit from the application of the Living Building Challenge. A new report by the International Living Future Institute explores social, regulatory, and financial barriers to achieving the Challenge in affordable housing with an emphasis on the three most challenging Petals (Net Positive Water, Net Positive Energy and Materials). Actionable strategies and pathways to certification in a range of climates, developed through partnership with leading affordable housing developers and practitioners, are also presented. This webinar takes an in-depth look at findings of the report and includes stories and lessons learned from affordable housing projects in North America.

This workshop is one in a series of five workshops regarding the Materials Petal of the Living Building Challenge. Learning Objectives include: Understanding how the philosophy and goals of the Living Building Challenge align with the mission and goals of affordable housing especially in terms of equity, health, community, and resiliency; Understanding social, financial, and regulatory barriers to achieving high performance and the Living Building Challenge on affordable housing projects; Learning strategies for addressing these barriers in a variety of climate zones; and Applying real-life lessons learned from leaders of living affordable housing pilot communities.
